The Chair for Medical Engineering is headed by `Prof. Dr.-Ing. G. Schmitz`__ since it was founded in 2004.

Research
---------
The research focuses on topics in imaging and image- and signal processing. Main focus are ultrasound based imaging and therapy techniques. Topics include, among others, `detection`__ and `quantification`__ of contrast agents, `photoacustic imaging`__ and `sonoporation`__.

The Chair for Medical Engineering participates in several medical `research projects`__. In the `OrthoMit project`__, for example, ultrasound is used as an intraoperative imaging system, the `ForSaTum project`__ focuses on cancer research.

Teaching
--------
The lectures of the chair for medical engineering cover statistical signal processing and medical imaging. This is a large portion of the  `study focus medical engineering`__. Several `Studien-, Diplom-, Bachelor- and Master theses`__ are offered within the research areas.
